NETS: Engineering Our Data-Centric World & Society
Our modern lives are tightly integrated with the digital realm: we stay informed and learn skills through algorithmically ranked content, communicate over wireless networks and mobile devices, stay connected via messaging and video chat, shop and conduct transactions via ecommerce and the blockchain; improve our health through wearables and interactive fitness gear, and explore new worlds with others in the fledgling metaverse.
These technologies are governed by data and algorithms that have the power to amplify and accelerate many aspects of society.
How can we use them responsibly to promote the greater good?
The Networked & Social Systems Engineering program develops the data engineering skills needed for tomorrow’s networked, AI-based systems — which must also be informed by an understanding of influence and trust, ethics and fairness, and individual rights and privacy in an open society.
